Flavours of Egypt – Egyptian Cooking Class

From the streets of Cairo to Melbourne, this special class invites you into the rich, layered world of Egyptian home cooking.

Led by Nada Salah, this hands-on and demonstration-style cooking class is as much about food as it is about history, memory, and connection.

Born and raised in Cairo, Nada’s early career was in archaeology, where she explored ancient cultures and civilisations and the stories they left behind. Along the way, she discovered that food held its own powerful history. One that could be tasted, shared, and felt around the table.

This realisation led her to formal culinary training at the Academy of Culinary Arts and, later, to Australia. Since moving to Melbourne in 2017, Nada has been cooking, teaching, and sharing Egyptian food through her home-based catering and cooking classes, introducing others to the depth and generosity of her cuisine.

What makes Nada’s approach so special is her deep curiosity about the relationship between food and history. She asks questions such as:
What did the pharaohs eat?
What ingredients did ancient Egyptians grow and trade?
How have centuries of migration and influence shaped the dishes we eat today?

For Nada, cooking is never just about technique. It is storytelling, memory, and heritage brought to life through flavour.

“When I fry the ta’ameya here in my house in Melbourne, I remember walking the streets early in the morning in Cairo, on my way to work, smelling the falafel and ful being fried.”
