This is the best homemade garlic bread. Not only for its incredible taste but also for reward versus effort. It is very quick and easy to make, and the cheers, plus the ooohhhhs and ahhhhhhs from the crowd (otherwise known as our daughters), were loud (and yup, made me proud).
This homemade garlic bread can be enjoyed as a treat & snack just as it is. It is the Italian icing on the proverbial cake to take pasta & pizza night up a great notch. I served this heavenly homemade garlic bread last week alongside Zucchini Involtini. It is my pleasure to share this recipe with you also this week, and here is the link to find that. It is also wonderful with soups and for parmigiana night.
You can double the ingredients for the garlic butter and then store it in the fridge. This makes the best homemade garlic bread even quicker and easier to make the next time you crave some warm, garlicky goodness.
- Bread In terms of bread, day-old bread is great. It works well with many bread types, such as ciabatta and sourdough and is great with a good quality baguette. The important part to remember is if you don’t like the bread usually, you won’t like it as garlic bread. If you buy a cheap and rather tasteless loaf, the garlicky goodness won’t hide that, so please choose a bread you know you really enjoy and then take it to new heights with your garlic butter. As mentioned, you could use a baguette style or a loaf. It all comes down to personal preference. I have left this garlic bread unsliced, and we generally slice or tear it at the table. You can certainly slice the bread though, and spread the garlic butter along each slice. Soooooo good.
- Butter: Use unsalted softened butter. This will melt into the bread, and it better spreads along the slices.
- Garlic: Fresh garlic cloves are a must here.
- Herbs & spices: Fresh Italian flat-leaf parsley and sea salt to bring it all together. Chives are a great addition, also.
- Cheese (optional): If you like cheesy garlic bread, add 1/4 cup of grated parmesan cheese or grated mozzarella. This gets added during the final couple of minutes of baking time.
This is a wonderful, mouth-watering garlic bread recipe that’s better than the store-bought variety. So much so that the family have crowned it as The best homemade garlic bread, and I am also very happy with that title.
