 Happy New Year to you!

I thought it only fitting that we kick off the year with chocolate. I mean, the minute Christmas was over, our local supermarket was filling shelves with hot cross buns and Chocolate Easter gifts. Oh my wordy, hey!

But honestly, this easy chocolate mousse recipe is so worthy of sharing here. We made this in one of our children’s school holiday cooking classes this week, and it was such a hit. They all adored it. Waiting an hour for it to chill in the fridge seemed to be the most challenging part of the process for them. They were so keen to try it & I am glad to report it was well worth their wait.

This is one of the easiest, most decadent, five-minute chocolate mousse recipes. It is a rich, velvety treat that requires minimal effort – perfect for satisfying those sweet cravings without breaking a sweat.

It is a great recipe if you are looking for a quick dessert for the family or a relaxed and easy one for when you are next entertaining friends or extended family. They will love this one. It always goes down a treat.

So, let’s get straight into the delicious details. We’ve got 300 grams of great quality chocolate, and I’m talking about using the good stuff – Lindt couverture chocolate with a 56% cocoa content is what we used. The quality of the chocolate certainly makes a difference here.

Now, onto our supporting cast: three room-temperature eggs, 60 grams of caster sugar, and 2 tablespoons of sifted Dutch cocoa powder. To make this mousse the creamiest dream, add 300 ml of whipped thickened cream. That’s only five ingredients for this five minute easy chocolate mousse.

For serving, you can serve as is or if you want to go all out, we’ve got some options for serving – think grated chocolate, or a sprinkle of Dutch cocoa, or a side of fresh raspberries or strawberries.

And there you have it – the Relish Mama easy chocolate mousse in five minutes. Minimal effort, maximum indulgence. Your taste buds will thank you, and so too will your friends and families.

Equipment

  • 1 Saucepan
  • 1 Electric beaters
  • 2 Cooking bowls
  • 1 metal spoon
  • 6 serving glasses

Ingredients

  • 300 g dark Chocolate roughly chopped (I used Lindt couverture chocolate 70%)
  • 3 eggs at room temperature
  • 60 g caster sugar
  • 2 tbsp Dutch cocoa powder sifted
  • 300 ml thickened cream plus extra whipped cream to serve
  • Options to serve: Grated chocolate additional dusting of Dutch cocoa, fresh raspberries or strawberries.

Instructions

  • Melt the chocolate by placing it in a heatproof bowl over a pan of simmering water. Stir until melted. Alternatively, if you have an induction cooktop, melt directly in the saucepan at a very low-temperature setting, stirring occasionally until melted. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
  • Using electric beaters, place the eggs and sugar in a large bowl and beat until the mixture is pale and thickened. This will take 4-5 minutes on medium-high speed. Turn the beaters off before adding the cocoa, and gently fold this in until combined.
  • Whip the cream in another bowl until thickened.  Carefully pour in the melted chocolate and mix this on a low setting or do this by hand by folding with a metal spoon. Do the same now with the egg and sugar mixture. You want to keep as much air in this as possible, so be gentle as you fold and combine.
  • Spoon into six glasses or moulds and chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour.
  • Options to serve: Grated chocolate, additional dusting of Dutch cocoa, fresh raspberries or strawberries.
