Led by Nada Salah, this hands-on and demonstration-style cooking class is as much about food as it is about history, memory, and connection.
Along the way, she discovered that food held its own powerful history. One that could be tasted, shared, and felt around the table.
This realisation led her to formal culinary training at the Academy of Culinary Arts and, later, to Australia. Since moving to Melbourne in 2017, Nada has been cooking, teaching, and sharing Egyptian food through her home-based catering and cooking classes, introducing others to the depth and generosity of her cuisine.
What makes Nada’s approach so special is her deep curiosity about the relationship between food and history. She asks questions such as:
For Nada, cooking is never just about technique. It is storytelling, memory, and heritage brought to life through flavour.
“When I fry the ta’ameya here in my house in Melbourne, I remember walking the streets early in the morning in Cairo, on my way to work, smelling the falafel and ful being fried.”
This Egyptian cooking class in Melbourne is perfect for curious home cooks, lovers of Middle Eastern and North African food, and anyone wanting a memorable food experience that goes beyond just following a recipe. This is a relaxed, welcoming class that combines demonstration with optional hands-on cooking. You are very welcome to join in, but there is absolutely no pressure if you prefer to watch, listen, and soak it all in.
Nada will guide you through traditional Egyptian dishes, share stories and context behind the food, and offer insight into ingredients, techniques, and cultural traditions.
